"Cancel AOL to get 3 Months Free"

aol logoHere's a trick you AOL users may want to try to get three months of free service.

I have an AOL account that I use for when I'm out of town. Their network of dial-up service is ubiquitous; I could probably travel to Siberia and still get 56k access. However, I don't plan on travelling anywhere in the near future so it's really not worth it to pay $23.95 per month just to have a dial-up account handy. So I decided to cancel my account last week.

Canceling is pretty easy. AOL lets its members cancel by phone, fax or mail. Phone: 1-888-265-8008. For additional information, go to Keyword: Cancel. Once you call, their representatives launch into a fast-paced script telling you why AOL is the best thing there ever was and why they really, really like you and want you to stick around. That's when they told me that they're going to give me three months of service free.

All I have to do once the three months are up is to call up and confirm my cancellation, but until then I get a free AOL account! Sweet.

Yanno, I don't know about AOL for Americans, but the crappy Brit version was even better. Brother-in-law was with them for about a year, and only paid for one month. They just wouldn't let him go!

I wish this had happened when my boyfriend had installed a "1000 hours of Aol free" disk. the account was to be cancelled within 30 days or before 1000 hours expired. a week and about 6 hours of internet use, and the aol representatives sent us a bill for the services, which were not even satisfactory.

Thanks for the phone number... I waste 10 minutes on the AOL site just trying to find out how to cancle the account.

When I told them that I now use broadband and yahoo for email and that I don't use their services they kept trying to tell me that I should use both...no wonder why their stock is sinking..they have idiots working there.

Cancelled my aol account a week back after the extra three months of crappy service which I hardly used!

Switched to a combination of free Juno and access-4-free.

The $9.95 Juno service at http://www.juno.com comes without ads. Also try access-4-free at http://www.access-4-free.com/ They charge some 4 bucks for set-up and offer upto 10 hours/month of excellent service free. After that they charge $1/hour.

My strategy of using about 9 hours of their service and the rest on free juno works pretty well and at no cost!

I would like to cancel my subcription to aol, I'm really feed up with the payment being taken out anytime of the month throwing off my checking account. You are the weakest link...good-bye.

Yeah, I had access since 1994 and tried to cancel due to broadband...apparently you can keep AOL for nothing additional if you sign up for RoadRunner...BUT the new RoadRunner special of 29.95 doesn't apply to this...but they did give me three months free dialup while I "tried" to decide between RR and AOL broadband...

BEWARE: We cancelled AOl and do NOT want any free service from them, yet they continue to bill our credit card.

I guess I was lucky... at least for how long it took me to cancel my AOL. I was done in about 4 minutes. I do have my account still active until the end of my billing cycle plus 3 additional months to compare it to the broadband service I have now. I've spent more time getting kicked off AOL in the past 3 years than I can count and I have no desire to ever click on their links again!

Yeah, I agree. I tried to cancel our AOL account 2 months ago & they gave us 2 more months free. Their offer ends tomorrow. I still plan to cancel, so I don't know what will happen tomorrow when they find out we really don't want to stick around. AOL is just really expensive.

I tried to cancel 6mo ago they keep giving me the freebie months. I am really sick of calling to cancel and they just wont take the cancelation. I cant get away and I dont need 2 online services. I am fed up. If I forget to call in at the end of the 3 mo.to cancel they bill my credit card. When I call they give me 3 months free again even though I say NO THANK YOU...They are relentless.I say just go for the free and dont forget your 3 month call in date.

I only made an account on AOL to get someone online (setting up their PC) then I called to cancel and they did really push the 3 month thing. I am calling to cancel AGAIN and I won't take 'more free time' for an answer. I don't trust my memory enough to remember to cancel it again, since I never use it anyway! Wish me luck.

When i bought my computer last year, it came with one year of free AOL. I used to hell out of the free service. When the year was over, aol sent me something that said to enter a credit card number to keep using the service. Little did i know that they already charged one card, and the second made two charges for one month. When i called, they said they needed proof, so i sent the two credit card statements. They said it wasn't enough proof! Screw AOL they suck and rob you!!
